Outreach Pantry
The Outreach Pantry is always in need of non-perishable food items. All donations are used for needy church members or sent to the Leesburg Food Bank. Bring your donations and place them in a basket at the rear of the sanctuary or on the counter in the kitchen. Be sure to mark Pantry. Your contribution will aid the community and those needing assistance.
Habitat For Humanity
The mission is to demonstrate the love and teaching of Jesus Christ by building simple, decent and affordable houses in partnership with churches, businesses, individuals and communities, for selected families without favoritism or discrimination. We shall provide a loving environment that supports the need to become successful homeowner. This is not a free house. Everyone works together to make it possible for families now living in substandard housing, or overcrowded conditions to have decent housing. Habitat will help while the applicant family help themselves. An adult is required to work (400) hours of sweat equity hours and two adults to work (500) hours in the Habitat Thrift Store or on construction sites. Houses are built or renovated using as much volunteer labor and donated materials as possible. Employing biblical economics, they are sold to a family in need, without profit or interest on mortgage payments. The cost of the house is repaid over usually 20 years and the payments are recycled to build more houses. Habitat has completed 43 houses for others in Lake County with plans to complete ten or more each year. Community supports the efforts of Habitat with volunteer labor, materials, and meals at construction sites. No construction experience is required, only the willingness to contribute your labor to help the Less fortunate.
School Tutoring:
During the school year approximately church members and volunteers spend Wednesday afternoons from 12:45 PM to 2:00 PM working with grade school students. This one-on-one relationship allows the student special attention in areas needing improvement. The program offers the school and teachers support in improving the student's classroom proficiency. It also offers the student a role model. Year 2001 is the 12th year of the Tutoring Program at CUMC. Thirty elementary students will come to the Fellowship Hall so adult volunteers can help them with their school work.
