Opportunities abound here at Community United Methodist Church. We hope and pray that there will be some activity each and every one of the congregation would like to participate in.
The Children's Choir and Drama Team
The Children's Choir and Drama Team is available for those children in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This group prepares children's musical programs for presentation in our church and to local nursing and assisted living centers throughout the year. Our largest production occurs during Christmas with a smaller scale production prior to the close of the school year. For drama parts, rehearsals are held on Wednesday's at 6:15 PM in the Choir Room. For choral parts, rehearsals are held on Wednesday's from 4:20 PM until 5 PM as part of the Wonderful Wednesday Program.

Wonderful Wednesday is a children's program which is held between 3:15 PM and 5:00 PM on Wednesday afternoons during the school year. It includes various opportunities for children to learn worship activities and other skills. Each Wednesday the children gather and participate in various small group sessions which include choir, bells, musical drama, dance, crafts, woodworking, puppets, clowning and drama. The children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, participate in these programs, and each seventh week, present a program highlighting those skills and activities they have participated in. The purpose is to provide local outreach to the children which offers an opportunity to understand worship in all phases of their life. Our focus is on community outreach to people with young children.
Dear Wonderful Wednesday Volunteers, First let me thank you for dedicating your time and talents to the development of our community children. This after school ministry program is not only meant to be fun but to help these children grow in character and spiritually. For the ones that do not have a church home, we strive to plant a seed in them that they are welcome here. For our church family children, it is yet another opportunity to provide them with a spiritually nurturing environment.
Ann Fields will be assisting in manning the check-in station until 3:15. Check out generally starts about 4:30pm I will be asking the woodworking team to help manage check out until we get a dedicated check out person. We will be using walkie-talkies to help communicate what parents have arrived. Due to the upcoming construction, WW Olympics will not take place during Term 3. The check in, snack & play time has been rolled into one general session. We have the ability to separate into two areas, but for simplicity sake we will try one general session. Those who can arrive early enough to help supervise this time frame are greatly appreciated!
The general session that takes place in the sanctuary will follow the same pattern as the last two terms. Bill Gube and Ron Deatherage have volunteered for our multimedia team and will man the sound booth. Carol Bowers and Mindy Standifer will join me in leading these sessions which will help in my phasing out of the picture. Our character building segment will center around “Relationships: Self, Parents, Siblings, Friends, Teachers and God”. My goal is to have all the skits and Power Points created for all 6 sessions and distribute the outlines to you. The praise team, dance class & sign language class will focus on the same music so that the parent program will showcase all three classes at one time performing the same music. We have several new teachers and assistants. Please welcome Joy Heaps (sign language), Jessica Davis (dance), Keith & Marilyn White (first aid), Memori Clayton (drawing), Mindy Standifer (photography), Emily Stumbo & Nancy Perkins (praise team) and we have a few unconfirmed openings for assistants that I hope to have filled by Monday. The sessions will end promptly on the half hour. Please have your children start cleaning up (stowing equipment) so they are ready to change class on time. See the chart below for room assignments. Plan a time prior to next weds to go through your supplies & familiarize yourself with anything new.
Band/Orchestra/EnsembleWe offer opportunities for anyone with the ability to play a musical instrument the opportunity to play their instruments in solo or in various groupings during worship services throughout the year. In addition to the music areas of our Music Ministry, we offer other ways for members and friends to use their talents in service.
Friends of the Choir
Friends of the Choir is responsible for sewing costumes, gathering and managing production props for presentations, assist in set designing, managing, and working in the kitchen during and after Music Ministry receptions and dinners. In addition, members of the Friends of the Choir would lead fund raisers for Music Ministry activities and needs and distribute fliers related to Music Ministry Programs.
Drama Team
Our drama team supports our Christmas and Easter Musical Dramas. In addition, members of our drama team participate throughout the year in worship service skits. As interest expands we hope to broaden our drama productions significantly.
Construction Team
We can always use persons with experience in building and set construction for our Christmas and Easter productions. Specialty Needs: As we significantly expand our musical and drama productions in upcoming months and years we need unique persons with knowledge in dance choreography) to work particularly with our children in our musical productions. Additionally, persons interested in assisting with productions (production assistants) are needed for all productions.
Lighting and Sound Team
We always need members and friends who are willing to learn to operate our sound board and lighting equipment. We look forward to anyone with an interest in this area to consider operating this equipment during occasional Sunday Worship Services and for special productions. If you have questions, please direct them to Carol Bowers, Minister of Music via the Church E-mail which is cumc-music@embarqmail.com or call me at the church office at 352-787-1829.
